ISimQ@NAFEMS World Congress 2021 – Mesh Adaptation for Turbomachinery

Pointwise (now cadence) and ISimQ have developed a mesh adaptation procedure for challenging turbomachinery CFD simulations. The adaptation creates a mesh that robustly conforms to the underlying geometry, respects locally anisotropic boundary layer mesh refinement and is driven by an adaptation sensor that accurately resolves secondary flow features. The method controls numerical error in the discrete solution by minimising truncation errors.

New mesh adaptation applied to a pump

ISimQ has applied the mesh adaptation procedure to the speedline of a pump for 80 % to 120 % of the design flow rate. The results show that off-design operating points require more mesh adaptation than the design-point flow.

Paul Galpin of ISimQ will present the method and the results at the NAFEMS World Congress 2021 (https://www.nafems.org/congress/) on 28 October 2021, 09:35 h (CET). If you are interested in the details or applications of the adaptation method, please send an email to ISimQ.
